Understanding Insulin Resistance and How to Reverse It

Insulin resistance is a condition where the body's cells become less responsive to the hormone insulin, leading to elevated blood sugar levels and potentially progressing to type 2 diabetes. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that facilitates the uptake of glucose from the bloodstream into cells, where it's used for energy or stored for future use. When cells become resistant to insulin, glucose accumulates in the blood, prompting the pancreas to produce more insulin. Over time, this can lead to hyperinsulinemia (excess insulin in the blood) and eventually type 2 diabetes.

My Personal Experience with Insulin Resistance

It's true I'm no spring chicken any more, all my life basically I have been on the “Standard American Diet” up until 4-5 years ago. By then, however, the damage had already been done, I had steadily gained weight, mainly on the belly. Dad Bod. I went to the Dr one day and they measured my blood sugar and it was high.

Obviously this Dr (who I don't go to any more) just grabbed the Govt prescription hand book handed out by “Big Parma” sold me Metaformin over the counter and a print out of a dietary plan that suggested I eat carbs 4 times a day. If I followed that advice and took the medication I probably would have lost a leg by now.) Metaformin increases insulin to reduce blood sugar, and carbs turn into sugar basically within 10 minutes of eating it. ie It would make “Type 2 Diabetes” (Insulin resistance) 100x worse.

I did my research and discovered Insulin resistance and how to over come it. Shortly after i did a 7 day fast and a couple of months later a 14 day fast and have since moved onto a keto/carnivore diet (most of the time). This reversed by Type 2 Diabetes quick smart.

Along the way I have fallen of the wagon from time to time and been strict in others, the key however is to get into the habit of simply making better choices. Have I lost all the weight I want to yet? NO, but I am heading in the right direction. To combat insulin resistance, it’s essential to adopt lifestyle modifications that improve insulin sensitivity. Some effective strategies include:

Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat Diets
